First edition, 2005. Montenegrin. 288 pages. Price 2,5 euro

Evrem Burkovich is one of the most distinguished Montenegrin writers – a poet, essayist, novelist, playwright, scientist, academician, public figure, known well beyond the borders of Montenegro. Because of his critical position against the militaristic policy of Miloshevich, he emigrated for several years to Croatia. He has an extensive opus of lyric and epic poetry, as well as dynamic and saturated essays.

Glossarii (which has several editions) is one of his best essay books. Using the idea for a sort of glossary – without using its form – the author shares his observations, thoughts, position and views on a number of facts, notions and circumstances from daily life, which accompany both him and each and every one of us, but our senses and thought have difficulty getting their meaning – from the idea of contemporary mythology to the moral dimensions of humanity and its oppositeness interrupted in many places in the text by the tragic events from former Yugoslavia. Besides that, the author analyzes artistically and reflectively a number of states of mind of the contemporary man in his personal and social environment – loneliness, goodness, hatred, the social thought of the Balkans, Montenegrin identity, dissidence, fear, public position, femininity and masculinity, etc.
